Under 13 White Match Report
Round 1 (6th April) v Pendle Hill – 0-1 Loss
The first time the whole squad has been completely together as a group for either training or a game and it showed in our first half. With only a small amount of time together as a squad, we have not yet worked out our positions for the team, with a number of players in spots they were not used to or uncomfortable with. It will take us a number of weeks to iron this out and come together as a unit, but there are positive signs for future games.
The opposition goal came from a hand ball that gave Pendle Hill a penalty in the first half. With Noah playing in goals he was able to get a solid hand on the shot and stop its momentum only for the bounce to go against us and the ball trickle just barely into the goal.
Noah and Macca were both outstanding in goals with both making excellent stops that could or should have been goals. The large size of the field also three us off a little, however with Sam at sweeper, Ryan at stopper and Chris and Dom either side of them, we generally held well in defense even though we were under pressure for most of the first half.
With some positional changes and some revving up at half time the boys started to settle in the second half and work as a team. We saw some positive ball movement between Dom, Josh H, Jack, Reece and Mitchel down the left With Chris, Josh U and Alex starting to combine on the right. Noah steadied the middle of the field in the second half making solid decisions and good passes.
Liam started to receive some service up the front of the field and made good use of this with some good ball work skills and attacking crosses, one in particular resulting in our best attacking move of the day but just missing Alex and Josh U that could have been our equalizer, which I felt we deserved on the day.
All in all not a great start for us, however I am very confident that with commitment to training and more attention to execution of game strategy, the coming weeks will start to produce some good quality and enjoyable football.
