We assembled at Fred Caterson 2 to play North Rocks on a beautiful morning. With 5 minutes to kick-off, North Rocks manager informed us that they only had 5 players present and he was ringing around. Fortunately, they were able to take the field with 10 players.
Coach Darrin gave players the opportunity to play outside their normal positions. With play underway, we saw a game of “ping pong” with big kicks from both sides but not a lot of control or positional play, as players got used to the new positions. We were deep in North Rocks half in the 12th minute when a North Rocks player was penalised for handball. Luke took the shot from in front of goal, and made no mistake. GOALLLLLLLLLLL. One minute to half-time, Luke took a corner and Peter kicked the ball into the goal. Halftime score was 2-0, and North Rocks were very competitive.
The second half saw us take more shots, with chances to Scott, Peter (his shot hit the post and bounced over the top), Sabine and Dylan. In the 13th minute, Alex took a long range shot that scored. Again in the 15th minute, Alex took another long range shot from a similar position and scored again. In the 23rd minute, Josh who was playing fullback took a long range shot and scored, and just on full time, Alex crossed to an eager midfielder Scott who made no mistake and thumped the ball into goal.
Fulltime score: CHU 6, North Rocks 0
Coach Darrin praised the team for trying the new positions. Everyone put in a great effort. It was really pleasing to see Liam, Sabine, Dylan, Cam, Lachlan S, Lachlan N and Max in forward positions shooting for goal. Anthony and Josh got to defend and were looking to get more involved. It was a great learning experience for all players.
Our Player of the Week is Cameron. Cam ran hard all match, made some great tackles and nearly scored in the first half. Congratulations Cam.
Cupcakes were passed around to celebrate the birthdays of Dylan and Scott this week. Happy Birthdays guys !
