Our first trial game took place on a sunny morning at Bernie Mullane Field 2, where our CHU Division 3 team met Kellyville’s Division 4 team. We were missing Scott and Kaia. We met our new player Alex for the first time – he has replaced Joshua W.
Coach Darrin warmed the players up whilst parents reacquainted themselves. Patrick and Carolyn T took on the team official duties. Captain Anthony and Vice Captain Lachlan led the team onto the field. We lost the toss and kicked off.
CHU attacked from the start of the game, and Anthony took his first shot within a minute. The first half was just what we needed to get us back into a routine. We saw some great defending and attacking from all team members ( except Max....but it was not his fault that the goalkeeper had nothing to do in the first half). With 4 minutes to go, Anthony scored a great team goal. Half-time score was 1-0 to us.
Coach Darrin congratulated the team on our first half performance, particularly in defence. He asked players to call for the ball, pass the ball earlier than had been happening, and to mark opposition players in defence.
The second half saw us have more opportunities as the opposition tired, and our players asserted themselves. We had attempts at goal by Liam, Sabine, Alex, and Anthony before Liam kicked the ball to Anthony for a great goal. Our team grew in confidence and the ball found its way to Joshua who scored with 5 minutes to go. Kellyville had defended very well, and with one minute to go, they attacked our goal with a good kick. The safe hands of Max stopped a screamer.
Final Score: CHU3 v Kellyville 0.
Coach Darrin addressed the team and congratulated them on the great start where all players made solid contributions. He advised that we will work at training on marking up to opposition players in defence and moving away in attack.
Player of the Week: Awarded to Captain Anthony for his 2 goals and leadership.
